Last month my dear old dad and his small rural community in southwestern British Columbia were confronted by the ferocity of Mother Nature. A raging forest fire drove them from their homes and subsequently destroyed most of them. My dad, thank goodness, was one of the lucky few whose home was untouched.
This tragedy, although it wasn't my own, motivated me to raise funds through my small Arbonne business and I decided to donate my full August commission to support the community in the aftermath of the fires. A $500 donation doesn't seem like much but it's something, and while I could've put that money towards my daughter's dance classes or bills, or enhanced my teaching wardrobe for a new school year, I didn't even consider my own needs and wants. Simone de Beauvoir said "That's what I consider true generosity: You give your all, and yet you always feel as if it costs you nothing".
When I started my Arbonne business in the very recent past, I was motivated by the stories of other women who completely transformed their lives. They discovered very quickly that their own success would come through the ongoing acts of giving and sharing Arbonne products and the opportunity with others. When the opportunity was shared with me I was just completing the twelfth and final course of my Master of Education degree, which I had started five years earlier. I hesitated and questioned but, with the wisdom of Richard Branson in mind, decided to join immediately after submitting my final project. He says "If someone offers you a great opportunity, and you're not sure you can do it, say yes - then learn how to do it later".
Since joining I've been learning and I've been loving the journey. I'm so grateful, not only to my friend Jill, who saw something in me that fuelled her belief that I could succeed, but to myself for saying "Yes!" to Arbonne. Without it I wouldn't have been able to contribute to the aid of my father's struggling community. As well, I know that my business will continue to enable me to generously support more causes and thereby help more people.
In recognition of the spirt of generosity, Arbonne is doubling the Preferred Client Rewards from now until the end of the year!
